Optional enhancements

Everything above works automatically. The sections below cover optionalfeatures you can enable for even better SEO: Google Search Console, automatic indexing, and custom robots.txt rules.

Google Site Verification

Verifying your site with Google Search Console proves you own it and unlocks valuable tools for monitoring search performance.

1

Go to Google Search Console

2

Add your property

Click "Add property" and enter your blog's URL. Choose "URL prefix" for simplicity.

3

Get your verification code

Select "HTML tag" verification method. Copy the content value from the meta tag (just the code, not the full tag).

4

Add to Postlyo

Go to Settings → SEO and paste the code in the "Google Site Verification" field.

5

Verify

Return to Search Console and click "Verify". Google will check your site.

Sitemaps

Understanding Sitemaps

A sitemap is an XML file that lists all pages on your blog. It helps search engines discover and index your content efficiently. Postlyo automatically generates and updates your sitemap.

Your sitemap is available at:
yourblog.com/sitemap.xml

The sitemap includes:

  • All published posts with their URLs and last modified dates
  • Category pages
  • Static pages (home, about, etc.)

Enabling Sitemaps

Sitemaps are enabled by default. You can verify the setting in Settings → SEO.

Submitting to Google

After enabling your sitemap, submit it to Google Search Console:

1

Open Search Console

Go to your property in Google Search Console.

2

Navigate to Sitemaps

In the sidebar, click "Sitemaps" under the Index section.

3

Submit your sitemap

Enter sitemap.xml in the "Add a new sitemap" field and click Submit.

One-time setup

You only need to submit your sitemap once. Google will regularly check it for updates automatically.

Automatic Indexing

Normally, Google discovers new content by crawling your sitemap periodically. This can take days or weeks. Automatic indexing notifies Googleimmediately when you publish new content.

How It Works

1

You publish a post

Create and publish content as usual

2

Postlyo notifies Google

Fast indexing

Google crawls within minutes

Setting Up Automatic Indexing

Automatic indexing requires a Google Cloud service account (the same one used for Analytics Dashboard).

1

Set up a service account

If you haven't already, follow the service account setup in the Analytics documentation.

2

Enable Web Indexing

In Google Cloud Console, enable the "Web Search Indexing" service for your project.

3

Add service account to Search Console

In Search Console → Settings → Users and permissions, add your service account email as an Owner.

4

Enable in Postlyo

Go to Settings → SEO and toggle on "Automatic Indexing".

Indexing Quota

15/200 requests used today

Daily Limit

Google limits indexing requests to 200 per day. For most blogs, this is more than enough. The limit resets daily.

Robots.txt

Postlyo generates a robots.txt automatically with sensible defaults. You can add custom rules if needed.

Auto-Generated Robots.txt

Served at /robots.txt

User-agent: *

Allow: /

Sitemap: https://yourblog.com/sitemap.xml

To add custom rules (e.g., blocking specific paths), go to Settings → SEO:

Custom Robots.txt Rules

Optional advanced setting

One rule per line. Added to the default rules.

Most users don't need custom rules

The default robots.txt allows all crawling. Only add rules if you specifically want to hide pages from search engines.

Rich Search Results

Postlyo automatically optimizes your posts for enhanced search listings. This helps your content stand out in search results with additional details like author, date, and images.

Your posts can show in search with:

  • Article details – Title, description, author, and publish date
  • Navigation breadcrumbs – Clear path shown in search results
  • Author attribution – Your name linked to your profile
  • Site branding – Your site name and logo displayed
  • Featured images – Eye-catching thumbnails in results

No configuration needed

Rich search features are generated from your post content and site settings. Just write and publish—Postlyo handles the optimization.

SEO Best Practices

Postlyo handles technical SEO. Your job is to create great content. Here's how to maximize results:

📝 Write 500+ words per post

Longer, comprehensive content ranks better. Give Postlyo more to work with for auto-generated descriptions and internal linking.

🎯 Review auto-generated meta

Postlyo generates meta titles and descriptions automatically. Review them— the beginning of your content becomes the default description.

📝 Use headings (H2, H3)

Structure content with headings. They help readers scan and signal content organization to search engines.

🖼️ Add alt text to images

Alt text helps search engines understand images. Describe what's in the image using relevant keywords naturally.

🔗 Mention other posts

Reference topics you've written about. Postlyo auto-links related posts when it finds matching titles or keywords.

📊 Check Search Console monthly

Monitor indexing status, click-through rates, and keyword rankings. Fix any errors Google reports.
